Simo Laaksonen, a 19-year-old form driver, will rise to the GP3 series for 2018. Laaksonen signed an agreement with the Spanish Campos Racing Team at the end of December. The GP3 series is run in the 2018 Formula One races.
“I’m really happy that we got a package agreement quickly.
Now we can team up with the team in the coming season, “says Laaksonen.
Laaksonen has previously put forward formulas in France, Germany and last season’s European F3 Open series with the same Campos Racing Team. In the 2017 season, Laaksonen won six prizes, winning one Rookie race and being ranked sixth overall. Laaksonen drove Campos Racing Team’s GP3 formula in the last tests of the season in Abu Dhabi early December and contract negotiations started right after the tests.
“We are really happy that our cooperation with Simon will continue. This season is going to be really challenging, but after seeing his development rookie season in Formula Euro Series, I am confident as a team and we will do our best to help Pete achieve their goals, “says Jr. team manager Adrian Campos
Laaksonen is from Marttila and entrepreneurs in the area have supported him throughout the career. Antti Aarnio-Wihuri has been the largest supporter and background of Laaksonen since 2015.
“Without Antti Aarnio-Wihuri’s support, I would not be in this situation. The GP3 series is considerably larger than the previous series and the action is more professional. We have built a clear plan. With my team and my knowledgeable backers, I get peace of work and I believe it will bring success, “Laaksonen continues.
