International qualifiers for The Girls On Track Challenge are over. Out of nine countries, 27 finalists have been selected to participate in a high-quality European finals on the Le Mans circuit in France on August 8-10. March 2019.
Drivers have been driving karting on slalom tracks and three young women from each country have cleared their way from tight qualifying for the final race. The Le Mans finals will be selected by six drivers to represent the European team, who will continue to drive to the FIA drivers’ training camps.
– Young women have shown great interest in our program. Many of them have also encouraged their friends, which is great, rejoices Michelle Mouton of the FIA Women’s Committee.
The FIA and EU Erasmus + International Program The Girls On Track is designed to support motor sports for young women. Included in the program are AKK-Motorsport ry and eight other country racing sports clubs. Finland’s qualifying events were held in Turku and Helsinki in summer. A total of 270 girls between 13 and 18 years of age participated in the event, with Milja Kukkonen, Nora Farigu and Vilma Luukkonen chosen for the European finals.
The hard level in Finland tells us that Helsinki needed another qualifier for the top ten drivers. The domestic success of the Karting Challenge is also reflected by the fact that the Helsinki event was by far the most popular of all European qualifiers.
“The level has been really hard in other countries, so now we have a tight job in preparing for Le Mansi, chairman of the AKK Women’s Group, Tiina Lehmonen, describes the challenge of the driver in March.
